Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) announced the opening of a pet food and livestock feed production facility in Minnesota and the upcoming development of a new pet food premix plant in Illinois in a statement on Wednesday.

The company’s new facility in Glencoe, MN has an annual capacity of about 100,000 tons, features 21 separate bulk ingredient bins and 28 finished feed bins, and has more than 30,000 sq ft of warehouse space, ADM’s release said. It also houses a patented cold-pelleting system. The Glencoe plant will furnish products to markets in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa.

“The new, highly automated facility will enhance our ability to meet customer needs for quality feed in the dairy, beef, swine, poultry, game bird, and wildlife sectors,” said Brent Fenton, president of ADM’s animal nutrition business. “With mixing systems that can produce bulk or bag feeds in either meal or pelleted forms in various package sizes, we are excited to use the very best technology in order to offer our customers and extensive, customizable array of the very highest quality feed products.”

Plans are also afoot to transform a 284,000 sq ft warehouse in Effingham, IL into a new pet food and livestock premix plant, replacing three ADM facilities presently located in the Illinois city. The new premix facility will have multiline batching with simultaneous weighing, metal detection and protection capabilities from receiving to packaging, and automation in receiving, batching, packaging, and loadout.

ADM expects the Effingham facility to be open by late 2017.

“We are continuing to expand our capabilities to meet the needs of animal nutrition customers around the globe,” Fenton said. “With these new plants, we will be positioned to grow with our customers, helping support them as they succeed. We are excited about these investments to grow and improve our ADM Animal Nutrition business, and we are looking forward to sharing the benefits with our customers.”
