About 10 people were injured when an explosion occurred at the Mexican plant of Metso Oyj in Irapuato on the evening of March 12 local time.

The steam explosion occurred in the hand lining area of the plant in the area served by a power plant, local news sources stated.

Based on the company's current information, the injuries are non-critical.

“We are shocked by the news of the accident. The safety of our operations and employees is always our top priority. Our primary focus at this moment is to ensure the well-being of our employees and to support all efforts to recover from this accident,” said Heikki Metsälä, president of Metso’s Consumables business area. 

“We are assessing the potential impact on customer deliveries and will contact our customers accordingly as needed,” he continued.

Metso’s local team in Mexico is cooperating with the local authorities. The company stated in a press release that it is committed to helping in the investigation and gathering all necessary information to understand the cause of the event.
