U.S. Silica Buys Georgia Manufacturing Plant

Industrial minerals and silica sand supplier U.S. Silica Holdings recently purchased a former ceramic proppant plant in Millen, GA that will be renovated into a manufacturing plant for the firm’s Industrial and Specialties Products (ISP) business, a company press release announced Monday.

“The acquisition of the Millen facility will enable us to expand our capacity to meet growing demand for some of ISP’s most successful and most profitable new products,” U.S. Silica Holdings President and Chief Executive Officer Bryan Shinn said in a statement. “Adding this new capability will accelerate new product launches, improve product quality, and facilitate important product customizations required by our industrial customers.”

U.S. Silica’s ISP business is developing a variety of high-margin, high-performance products that will be produced at Millen industrial site. The company said it expects these products to drive the business’ profitability over the coming years. Full production at the plant is slated to commence in the latter half of 2019.

The facility was sold to U.S. Silica by CARBO Ceramics for $23 million, according to information in a separate release by CARBO.
