Transformer Fire at Ashland Inc. Chemical Plant

Emergency personnel were called to the Ashland Inc. chemical plant in Texas City, TX on Tuesday after a transformer caught on fire, the local emergency management agency said in a Facebook post. 

Firefighters managed to swiftly contain the blaze and no injuries were reported during the incident, Texas City Emergency Manager Tom Munoz told the Galveston County Daily News. The official said cause of the fire is unknown. 

Some 4000 gal of mineral oil burned during the incident, according to coverage by the Associated Press (AP). 

Ashland’s Texas City facility manufactures PVP linear and crosslinked homopolymers, PBP/VA copolymers and NMP, information on the company’s website said. About 180 workers are employed at the site.
