Train Fire Causes $1M in Damage at ADM Plant

A blaze broke out Monday in a diesel locomotive at the Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) dry grind plant in Cedar Rapids, IA, causing an estimated $1 million in damages to the train, reports by several local news organizations said. 

Flames ignited in the train at about 4:50 p.m. Over 1000 gal of water and foam was used to douse the fire, according to coverage by CBS News affiliate KGAN. No injuries were logged during the incident. 

Radio Iowa reported that the cause of the fire is unknown. 

Located next to ADM’s corn processing plant in Cedar Rapids, the dry grind plant supplies milled corn for use in ethanol production, according to a 2006 company press releasethat announced plans to construct the facility.
