Swiss specialty chemicals firm Sika AG recently relocated a concrete admixtures production plant to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, adding a reactor for manufacturing polymers and a mortar facility to its capabilities.

“The new site in Dubai Industrial City is conveniently located between Dubai and Abu Dhabi and has been established as our strategic production, distribution, and sales center for the entire GCC [Gulf Coast Council] area,” said Ivo Schädler, regional manager, EMEA, at Sika. “We have thus created the ideal conditions for developing our growth potential in these booming construction markets.”

Sika said it has expanded the site’s mortar and concrete admixture production assets, warehouse capacity, and office space, offering its customers improved material streams, logistics, and an optimized cost structure. Local production of polymers will enable the company to provide cost-effective concrete admixtures to the GCC states.

The company said the UAE’s shift away from an oil-based economy, growing tourism industry, and its plan to host Expo 2020 will fuel demand for its products from the construction sector.
