Lactalis Group subsidiary Parmalat Canada Inc. announced Tuesday that its $1.24 billion acquisition of the Kraft Heinz Company’s natural cheese business in Canada has closed. The firm’s portfolio now includes a number of cheese brands in the country, including Cracker Barrel, aMOOza!, and P’tit Quebec.

“The transaction represents a significant investment in Canadian dairy and represents a strong commitment to the Lactalis Group’s Canadian business, building on Parmalat Canada’s current Canadian footprint, which includes nearly 3000 employees, 16 dairy processing plants, and a dedicated research and development facility,” the company said in a press release.

Along with the brands, Parmalat Canada also took ownership of Kraft’s Ingleside, ON cheese production facility. The firm plans to retain 400 workers there.

Parmalat Canada’s existing brands include Beatrice, Lactantia, Black Diamond, Astro, and Balderson.
