Nippon Paint to Open $60M Production Facility in U.S.

Paints and coatings firm Nippon Paint (USA) Inc. is spending $60 million to construct a new, 270,000-sq-ft manufacturing plant in Chattanooga, TN that will serve the North American automotive industry, the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) announced in a release Monday.

Once operational, the facility will focus on the production of automotive electrocoat (E-Coat) and top coat. The Chattanooga site will be the first Nippon Paint facility in the U.S. to produce E-Coat.

“The new manufacturing facility in Chattanooga is a key component of our strategic expansion plans for the Americas,” Nippon Paint (USA) Chief Executive Officer Tetsuro Fujita said in a statement. “Nippon Paint (USA) looks forward to bringing E-Coat production to the U.S. and expanding our paint and coating product offerings to our valuable automotive customers in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.”

Work on the site is slated to begin in January 2020. About 150 new jobs will be created over the next seven years as a result of the plant’s opening.

Founded in 1990, Nippon Paint (USA) Inc. is a subsidiary of Osaka, Japan-based Nippon Paint Holdings Co. Ltd.
