New INVISTA Factory in China is Operational

INVISTA’s new 215,000-ton hexamethylene diamine (HMD) plant in Shanghai, China is now operational, the Wichita, KS-based company announced on Monday.

Hexamethylene diamine is an intermediate used in the production of nylon 6,6 fibers, polyurethanes, and high-performance polyamides, which are used in many products like air bags, automobile parts, carpet, and clothing.

“Asia – and China in particular – remains a region with a long-term potential for demand growth in nylon 6,6, and the new HMD facility enables us [to] better support our customers. Through this local production asset we can provide better service and a shorter lead time,” said Bill Greenfield, president of INVISTA Intermediates in a press release.

The plant is located in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park.
