A blaze ignited in a conveyor belt attached to a $70,000 piece of machinery Wednesday morning at the Emmi Roth cheese plant in Monroe, WI, local fire officials told the Monroe Times

The blaze started in the packing room in the plant when a person performing repairs on the machine left the room to get tools, Monroe Fire Chief Dan Smits said in an interview with the newspaper. Flames damaged the machine and created a large amount of black smoke.

Crews were at the 6th Avenue site for about two and a half hours, according to the Times. Officials are working to determine the cause of the blaze.
