The Ins & Outs of Conveyor Innovation

Conveyors have evolved and are now more than simply a tool to convey product from one part of a facility to another, according to a recent Design News article. Technological advances now allow conveyors to use backlit design to allow for better inspection of product, metal-free conveyor belts to help with metal detection, and single-drive multiple belt design that allows more products to be moved while minimizing energy required. Vacuum, pivot, and timing belt conveyors are also alternatives that may assist companies in making their products more efficient. Accessories for conveying also assist in ensuring operations run easier. Diverters and gates help manage product flow, while photo eyes and counters monitor product as well. Material handling companies can also provide expertise on the best type of conveyor for facilities since many companies may not have the staff to recommend the appropriate equipment.
