Whether you’re building or modernizing a structure, there are many aspects to consider. The Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS) and the Kansas State University Distance Education Program are offering an online course, GEAPS 510: Grain Facilities Planning and Design, to help you evaluate potential factors to make the best decisions for your facility.
Running from Feb. 18 through Mar. 24, the online course identifies types of grain facilities and storage structures and their purposes. It also covers how to determine storage and handling capacities. At the end of the course put your new skills to the test by laying out a simple facility.

- Matching commercial needs and facility capacity
- Site Selection
“My position is primarily responsible for creating high-level initial facility layouts for potential sites. The information in the course was very helpful,” Tim Hoare of CHS Inc. said. “The more I know, the fewer design passes are required and the less time it takes to get projects out for bid.”
GEAPS 510 is one of six courses required for the Credential in Grain Operations Management.
The course costs $700 for GEAPS members and $965 for non-members. Registration closes on Feb. 12.
