GE Healthcare Facility to Use Self-Driving Vehicle

A self-driving vehicle used for material transport will be used in a GE Healthcare repair facility near Milwaukee, WI to automate parts delivery in the company’s just-in-time manufacturing process.

Developed by Clearpath, the OTTO self-driving vehicle was selected for the repair operations center (ROC) to load and deliver parts to work cells for repair. The GE Healthcare facility repairs medical equipment, conducts test for functionality, recycles retired equipment, manages warranty service programs, and ships qualified parts to field services.

“Clarpath’s OTTO self-driving vehicle and intelligent technology will help us serve our customers with speed, flexibility, and accuracy, and gives us the ability to scale our operations going forward,” said Patricio Espinosa, director of repair operations for the Americas at GE Healthcare in a press release.

The vehicle may help companies to “stay flexible with the changing needs of their material flow process,” said Clearpath.
