Firefighters worked for about 40 hours to douse a blaze that ignited in a Viterra grain elevator at the Port of Vancouver last Thursday, a Canadian news organization reported. 

Crews responded to the elevator around 7 p.m. Thursday and remained on scene through Saturday afternoon to extinguish the fire, officials said in coverage by CTV News. Among the difficulties that firefighters faced, flames flared up in other parts of the facility during the incident. 

The company does not know the cause of the fire or the materials involved, Viterra spokesperson Peter Flengeris told the news broadcaster. No injuries were reported.

VIterra has six port facilities in Canada, according to the firm’s website, including the Cascadia and Pacific Terminals at the Port of Vancouver, Prince Rupert Grain, two sites in Thunder Bay, ON, and a facility in Montreal.
