A fire ignited early Saturday morning in the fourth floor of a wastewater treatment building at the Wacker Chemie polysilicon production plant in Charleston, TN, drawing a response from area emergency personnel, according to the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office.   

Fire and law enforcement officials learned of the blaze at about 1:20 a.m. Firefighters from Wacker, Cleveland City, and Bradley County were called to the scene.

“A cloud of smoke and water vapor is present in the area. Air quality tests being done regularly have shown zero parts per million and no chemical residue in the air,” the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post. 

The incident did not pose a danger to the public, according to the sheriff’s office. A statement by Wacker published by ABC News affiliate WTVC said that its internal firefighters also responded to the fire and that no injuries were logged during the incident.

Wacker’s 550-acre Charlestown site has a capacity of 20,000 mt of polycrystalline silicon and features a headcount of 650 workers, according to information on the company’s website.
