Firefighters worked for over six hours to douse a blaze last Thursday at an Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) corn facility in Decatur, IL, several local news organizations reported. 

“Yesterday at approximately 10:45 a.m. a small fire broke out in the feed house at the corn plant in Decatur. Employees evacuated the plant as a precaution. No one was injured, there was minimal damage, and the fire was quickly contained,” ADM said in a statement printed by Fox News affiliate WICS. 

Crews responded to the East Faries Parkway plant and determined that hot maintenance work on a piece of drying equipment caused some material to ignite, coverage by the Decatur Herald & Review said. The flames were out by about 5 p.m.

The Decatur Fire Department said in reports that the effort to put out the fire lasted for hours because the fire was “difficult to reach and fully extinguish.”

This January, a conveyor system exploded at ADM’s corn processing facility in Decatur. In November 2018, firefighters were called to a dust explosion in a grain elevator at the Decatur site.
