A fire at the Kettle Foods production plant in Beloit, WI last Friday forced workers to evacuate the facility and caused damages to equipment, the Beloit Fire Department said in a release following the incident.

Crews responded to the Kettle Way plant at about 3 a.m., finding a significant volume of smoke in the site’s cook area and in an exhaust system. Because a sprinkler system became active shortly after flames ignited, the fire was contained to a piece of cooking equipment.

“A damage estimate is unavailable at this time, but it’s expected to be a significant dollar amount due to the piece of equipment that was on fire,” the fire department wrote in a Facebook post. “The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.”

Workers evacuated the plant before crews arrived. Firefighters put out the fire and remained on scene for about three hours. Maintenance workers at the Kettle Foods facility are in the process of cleaning.

No injuries were logged during the incident.
