Firefighters responded to the Northeast Pellets wood pellets manufacturing plant in Ashland, ME on December 31 after a blaze ignited in a piece of conveying equipment at the site, several local news organizations reported. 

Called to the site around 6 a.m., crews arrived at the scene to find smoke and sparks coming from several conveyors used to move sawdust, Ashland Fire Chief Don Bouley told WAGM. 

Workers were starting up the equipment when the fire started, Northern Pellets President Matt Bell said in coverage by news website TheCounty.me. Staff and firefighters managed to douse the flames by 6:30 a.m. 

The company official said that no injuries or damages were logged during the incident. 

Northeast Pellets produces premium wood pellets at its Ashland facility, according to the company’s website. The products are sold in bulk by the ton, bags, and tote sacks.
