Robert "Bob" Ray Williamson, founder of BAG Corp and Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container (FIBC) industry pioneer, passed away July 16, 2016 at the age of 86, according to a company press release. Mr. Williamson founded BAG Corp in 1969 and served as its CEO until his retirement in 2011.

“I am honored to lead a company that pioneered an industry. The 42 years my father invested in BAG Corp, and its enduring success makes him a legacy that we can all be proud to commemorate,” said Williamson’s daughter, Jodi Williamson Simons, who currently serves as CEO of BAG Corp.

Mr. Williamson founded BAG Corp more than 47 years ago after observing the agricultural industry struggling with inefficient and expensive crop dusting product handling methods. The start of the FIBC industry in North America was initiated when he recognized a FIBC could efficiently load product into the crop duster. Mr. Williamson saw the great potential and wide range of applications for the FIBC, trademarking the Super Sack^® container and introducing it into a wide variety of industries, including food products, chemicals, plastics, and pharmaceuticals.

Mr. Williamson was a founding member of the FIBC Association, and under his leadership, BAG Corp was awarded numerous U.S. and International patents for design and construction of FIBCs, including for the internationally recognized Super Sack^® container, which is considered a standard in the industry.

Born Jan. 30, 1930 in Wichita Falls, Texas, Mr. Williamson grew up in Ft. Worth and lived most of his adult life in Dallas. He graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1947 and went on to receive his undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University in 1951.
