Four people who work at the BASF plant in Geismar, LA have tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The chemical firm told television news station WAFB on Wednesday that two contractors and two employees have the virus. 

The infected workers have been self-quarantining for more than a week, BASF senior communications manager Blythe Lamonica said in the broadcaster’s report, and that some other workers who were in direct contact with them have also entered into self-quarantine. 

After the workers tested positive, the company cleaned areas of the plant where the workers had been and implemented several health policies, including taking workers’ temperatures, according to WAFB. 

BASF cut its contractor workforce at Geismar by over 45% due to the outbreak, and some 30% of its employees at the site are working from home, Lamonica said in a separate article by the Baton Rouge Advocate.
