SOCMA & Gabriel Performance Products Announce New EHS&S Management System Database

The Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates (SOCMA) and Gabriel Performance Products LLC (Gabriel), a member company, have announced a new management system database that integrates SOCMA's ChemStewards program with other government-sponsored performance improvement programs.

The database, the first-of-its-kind, provides a total approach to Environmental, Health, Safety and Security (EHS&S) management and is available to SOCMA members at no cost.

Created by Gabriel, the Integrated Management System (IMS) is based on the ChemStewards Management System and complies with the requirements of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OSHAS 18001. The Ohio-based custom manufacturer will provide a live demo of the database at SOCMA's EHS&S and Sustainability National Conference on May 18 in Houston.

The IMS does not replace SOCMA's ChemStewards program, but can be used as a supplement to the above standards.

"SOCMA thanks Gabriel Performance Products for creating and sharing this tool with fellow member companies," said SOCMA president Lawrence D. Sloan. "As a ChemStewards-certified facility with a strong commitment to EHS&S, Gabriel recognizes that chemical companies must have robust systems, practices and procedures in place to safely and effectively operate in a manner that gains stakeholder confidence. This database will help them do that."

"We believe that excellence in plant safety, environmental stewardship, product quality, and employee involvement are the cornerstones of our Integrated Management System," said Kenneth Allen, president of Gabriel Performance Products. "We are pleased to share this database with SOCMA members and are confident it will be an integral part of their EHS&S activities."

Key features of the database include:
* Incident Switch Board – to track, investigate, and review incidents
* Daily Manufacturing Report – to gather data on the organization to aid in planning, etc.
* Chemical Approval Switchboard – to collect and manage chemical information
* Employee Dashboard – allows employees to see what actions, investigations, and events they're responsible for

ChemStewards is an industry-developed EHS&S program designed for the batch, custom and specialty chemicals industry. It is based on a three-tier system with key performance requirements per tier. It is the only management system which is totally facility based and provides participants with adaptability and cost control.

SOCMA is the only U.S. based trade association dedicated solely to the batch, custom, and specialty chemical industry. Since 1921, we have represented a diverse membership of small, medium, and large chemical companies, making us the leading authority on this sector. SOCMA has a global membership of more than 200 companies. For more information, visit www.socma.com.
