Siemens Milltronics-Brand BW500 Belt Scale Integrator Is NTEP Approved

Siemens Energy & Automation Inc. has announced that its Milltronics-brand BW500 belt scale integrator received National Type Evaluation Program (NTEP) Certification of Conformance for weighing and measuring devices from the National Conference on Weights and Measures (NCWM). With NTEP approval, the BW500, in conjunction with the NTEP-Approved Milltronics-brand MMI belt scale, can now be used in custody transfer applications in the U.S.

The BW500 Integrator replaces the CompuScale III for applications that require NTEP approval. Additionally, the BW500/MMI system received Electronic Indicator/Totalizer approval from Measurement Canada, making it legal for trade in Canada. Similar approvals are pending for the UK (OIML).

The BW500/MMI belt scale system is ideal for use on fast-moving belts, short idler spacing, and light or uneven belt loading. Continuous in-line conveyor belt weighing applications are used in the aggregates, mining, power generation, iron and steel, food processing and chemical industries.

NTEP is a program of cooperation between the NCWM, the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST), State Weights & Measures Officials, and the private sector for determining conformance of weighing equipment with the provisions of Handbook 44. NTEP provides the testing procedures for each type of device, oversees its testing, and issues a Certificate of Conformance (CC) upon acceptance. The range of operating parameters that a family of devices covered by a single CC can have is restricted and noted on the certificate.
