River Consulting Provides Grain Expertise for Bangladesh Project Award

River Consulting has been selected by the Bangladesh Ministry of Food and Disaster Preparedness to provide Front End Engineering and Design and Owner’s Engineer services for a new 50,000 mt wheat and rice import facility. Once completed, the new facility at the port of Mongla, Bangladesh, will provide grain import services for the entire western half of Bangladesh.

River Consulting is providing expertise in the design and layout of the ship unloading, grain storage, and handling facilities, and will be preparing Design-Build tender document for the new import facility. River Consulting will then act as the Owner’s Engineer during the construction phase to review the erection and commissioning of the project. The facility will include state-of-the-art design to receive wheat and rice from vessels coming into the port. Design, layout, and specification will include capabilities to effectively unload imported grain from vessels to storage. Stored grain will then be bagged and loaded onto trucks or barges for distribution within the country. The fast-track project is planned to be operational in approximately two years and is funded by the Japan Debt Cancellation Fund. River Consulting’s services are being provided in consortium with BETS Consulting Services Ltd., a local Bangladesh engineering consultancy.

“This project is an essential element in the Bangladesh government’s program to increase the stability of food supplies for the people of Bangladesh, said Gregory DiFrank, P.E., president. “River Consulting is pleased to be able to provide our three decades of grain handling expertise to the Ministry to help them construct this important facility.”
