The Haver Tyler CPA 2-1 is a photo-optical particle size and shape analyzer that is designed for laboratory use for measuring dry, free-flowing, and non-agglomerating particles. What typically takes a test sieve and shaker analysis to complete in 15 to 20 minutes, this unit performs in an average of 3 to 5 minutes. Also, in contrast to a traditional test-sieving process that “measures” particles by calculating the percentage of a selected standard size of a representative sample, the CPA 2-1 accurately counts and measures each individual particle of a representative material sample in real time. It is equipped with user-friendly, high-technology software that correlates the raw particle count data curve to the sieving distribution curve for comparison. This software allows the user to build a traditional test sieving “intelligence” into the unit. W.S. Tyler, Mentor, OH 800-321-6188 www.wstyler.com

Fully Integrated Laser Particle Size and Shape Analyzer
Particle shape is measured using a high-precision microscope in-line with the particle size measurement cell, allowing for measurement of both particle size and shape. This configuration provides the highest precision for particle size and shape measurements. The 1090LD system features fully integrated liquid and dry dispersion. Switching dispersion modes is done with a click of the mouse in software for simple, fast operation with no need for realignment or revalidation of the system when switching dispersion modes. The unit uses two lasers, guaranteeing the highest accuracy and precision from 0.04 to 500 microns. Optical components are permanently mounted on a cast iron base plate to ensure the system is in alignment at all times. All analyzers are fully compliant to ISO 13320, 21 CFR Part 11, and USP <429>, providing accurate, reproducible results over the lifetime of the instrument. The Gradex 3000 particle size analyzer expands quality control programs by providing fully automatic sieve analysis for the gradation of aggregate material. The unit lowers costs by limiting the need for additional manpower and by reducing the amount of technician time required to perform testing. Ideal for classifying materials such as sand, gravel, or crushed stone, the patented, PC-controlled unit provides analysis and a complete data printout. With the “AutoFeed” feature, technicians are free to perform other work while up to six samples are tested automatically. It also provides consistent results because the same shaking, brushing, and weighing procedure is repeated on each sample. Rotex Global LLC, Cincinnati, OH  800-453-2321 www.rotex.com

Dust Analysis for Plastic Pellets
The fundamental principle used by the FineAlyzer is based on the condition that the unwanted dust and fines will normally adhere to the larger pellets and will be removed by rinsing the test sample with a liquid (preferably demineralized water). This causes the fines and dust in the sample to wash away to the beaker below. These particles are then poured into the filter collection unit, separating the fines from the water. The weight of the filter paper is accurately measured before and after the collection process, and this weight is used to calculate the PPM of the sample. The wet analysis quantifies the amounts of dust with particle sizes from 1.6 to 500 microns. Pelletron Corp., Lancaster, PA  717-293-4008 www.pelletroncorp.com

Cordouan VASCO Series of dynamic light scattering particle size analyzers are dynamic light scattering (DLS) nanosizing instruments based on a patented innovative technology developed in collaboration with the French Institute of Petroleum (IFP). The VASCO’s original optical configuration design combines back-scattered light detection and the capability to control sample thickness. This design provides higher detection efficiency for opaque sample, decreases the instrument sensitivity to ‘multiple scattering artifact’, and strongly reduces the laser thermal effect allowing very accurate measurements even in concentrated and dark dispersions. In most cases, no sample dilution is necessary which makes measurements almost instantaneous. With its temperature stabilization feature, the VASCO is capable of measuring particle size in a range from 6 micrometers to 1 nanometer. Analyzer Integration
Malvern Link II is a powerful OPC-standardized software package that simplifies the integration of analytical devices with expert control systems in manufacturing processes. A tool for system integration engineers, it promotes the development of future-proof control solutions, reducing the cost of upgrades and future maintenance. OPC (www.opcfoundation.org) is recognized universally and promotes open connectivity via open standards. Using the latest OPC protocol, Malvern Link II transforms analyzer integration for automated control from being a costly, bespoke task for each individual plant to a more rapid, routine, and cost-effective procedure. Not only does it deliver a single interface for remote control and reporting, its building-block concept allows multiple and unlimited configuration of automation devices and analyzers, including Malvern’s range of particle characterization systems. It is fully compliant with pharmaceutical industry requirements. Malvern Instruments Inc., Westborough, MA 508-768-6400  www.malvern.com
