Martin Engineering to Build Clean Coal-Handling Systems for Italian Power Company

Martin Engineering Services Group, LLC, a business unit of Martin Engineering, the Neponset, IL-based international supplier of systems and services for controlling dust and spillage from bulk material handling systems, has been awarded a $3.7 million contract to supply 34 custom-engineered Martin Inertial Flow Chutes to a project for a leading Italian utility company.

The chutes are part of a major investment to develop a clean coal-handling facility for one of Italy’s largest power companies. The contract was awarded by the project’s principal contractor, Voest Alpine Materials Handling, (Sandvik Mining and Construction) of Austria.

The custom-engineered chutes are used in the loading or unloading of belt conveyors. Developed with the use of sophisticated material testing and computerized flow-modeling, they carry a written guarantee of up to a 98% reduction of dust and spillage, and also reduce problems with impact damage, off-center loading, belt mistracking, and chute plugs.

The contract represents the largest engineer/procure/construct project for the company’s European business unit, Martin Engineering GmbH. Located in Walluf, Germany, it will work in close collaboration with the company’s engineering and project management unit, Martin Engineering Services Group, of Kirkland, WA, with support teams in Brazil, Germany, and South Africa.
