K-Tron to Collaborate with Leistritz, Howorth Air Technology, Hosokawa Micron Powder Systems, and Quadro Engineering Corp.

K-Tron Process Group formally announced its collaboration with Leistritz, Howorth Air Technology Inc., Hosokawa Micron Powder Systems, and Quadro Engineering Corp., presenting a complimentary technical seminar, “Innovations in Pharmaceutical Processing” that offers pharmaceutical processors detailed process and analytical information about key topics and trends in the industry.

The complimentary technical seminar covers the latest developments in continuous feeding and dispensing, extrusion, granulation, hot melt extrusion, high-containment solutions, milling and sieving, pneumatic conveying, active freeze drying, and continuous and batch blending.

The seminar offers an objective technical overview and introduces participants to methods of both improving current operations and utilizing new technologies. Course material is suitable for scientists, engineers, production and manufacturing personnel, researchers, formulation scientists, product development and process transfer personnel.

These free one-day events will be held at two locations: Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Santa Ana, CA and Thursday, September 24, 2009 at the    Embassy Suites Hotel in South San Francisco, CA.

Presentation topics include:
“How to Choose the Most Efficient Feeder Technology for Your Continuous and Batch Processes” K-Tron Feeders

“Milling and Sieving – Improve Efficiencies, Maximize Yield” – Quadro Engineering Corp.

“Developments in Continuous Mixing via Extrusion in a GMP Environment” - Leistritz

“High Potency Containment Solutions” – Howorth Air Technology Inc.

“Part I - Active Freeze Drying, Lyophilization: New Approach to an Old Concept”
“Part II - Continuous Mixing for the Pharmaceutical Industry: One Model for
All Your Needs” – Hosokawa

“Pneumatic Conveying Applications for the Pharmaceutical Industry: Options in Design and Technology” – K-Tron Premier

K-Tron Feeders has specialized for more than 100 years in high-accuracy feeding and metering of powders and bulk materials. Product lines include loss-in-weight, volumetric, and weigh belt feeders. K-Tron Premier offers sanitary pneumatic conveying components and systems for the transport and handling of bulk materials. With more than 60 years of experience in bulk material handling systems, K-Tron Premier’s sanitary receivers are specially designed for use with powders and friable materials in food and pharmaceutical applications.

Leistritz manufactures twin screw extruders and systems that meet GMP validation requirements. The use of the continuous twin screw extrusion process to manufacture controlled release dosage forms is continually rising. Applications include mixing/solvent extraction, wet granulation, pelletization, transdermal/dissolvable films, and shape extrusion.

Howorth Air Technology Inc. specializes in the design and supply of high-quality powder handling and process containment equipment. As a leader in both engineered systems and containment solutions, Howorth provides containment booths, glove box isolators, and pack out solutions for the global pharmaceutical industry.

For more than 30 years, Quadro has engineered and manufactured a line of size reduction mills, fine grind mills, mixers, emulsifiers, powder dispersion units, security screeners, and pneumatic vacuum conveyors.

For more than 80 years, Hosokawa Micron Powder Systems has led the industry in size reduction, classifying, mixing, blending, drying, grinding, filling, bulk packaging, containment, compaction and analytical equipment and systems.
