ISPE Announces 2010 Membership Award Winners at Global Annual Meeting

ISPE, a global not-for-profit association of 22,000 technical professionals working in the manufacturing and drug development sectors of the pharmaceutical industry, announced its 2010 award winners and recognized their contributions to the pharmaceutical industry and the Society. Robert P. Best, ISPE’s president and CEO, presented the honors at the Society’s 2010 Annual Meeting held November 7-10 in Orlando, FL.

“ISPE is fortunate to have such dedicated members who aspire to bring out the best in themselves, their colleagues, and the industry they serve,” said Best. “We are grateful for the many roles our active members serve and their contributions to the Society.”

Tracy Clemmer won the Max Seales Yonker Member of the Year Award, which honors the ISPE member who made the most significant contribution to the Society during the past year. Clemmer was awarded this honor due to her involvement with the rapidly-growing China Affiliate.

Joan Gore received the Richard B. Purdy Distinguished Achievement Award. This award honors an ISPE member who made significant, long-term contributions to the Society. Gore was named the winner in recognition of her 10 years of active service to ISPE, including taking the lead on efforts to globalize the North-American-based Clinical Materials Committee and the European-based Investigational Medical Products Group into one Investigational Products Community of Practice (COP), which has become one of ISPE’s most successful COPs under her leadership. Additionally, Gore has served four years on ISPE’s International Board of Directors and has been involved with numerous other ISPE activities. 

Jerry Roth was awarded the Joseph X. Phillips Professional Achievement Award, which honors an ISPE member who has made significant, long-term contributions to the pharmaceutical industry as a whole. Roth received this award in part due to his efforts to establish the Certified Pharmaceutical Industry Professional (CPIP) certification program.

The Risk-MaPP Task Team was named the Committee of the Year to honor them for their dedicated efforts to create the ISPE Baseline Guide: Risk-Based Manufacture of Pharmaceutical Products (Risk-MaPP), which advocates a holistic approach to the current hot-button topic of developing a scientific, risk-based strategy for managing the risk of cross-contamination.

Eli Lilly and Co. was named Company of the Year and recognized for outstanding support provided by a company as reflected by significant active participation in the Society’s committees, councils, task teams, Communities of Practices, programs, and activities.

Judy Samardelis and Winnie Cappucci won the Roger F. Sherwood Article of the Year Award for their article titled, “Applied Quality Risk Management Case Study: Laboratory Computerized Systems,” published in the September/October 2009 issue of Pharmaceutical Engineering magazine.

The Spain Affiliate is ISPE’s Affiliate of the Year, recognized for outstanding work as reflected by membership development and services, management, industry and Society support, and innovation.

North American/South American Affiliate Council Awards -
The New Jersey Chapter and the Boston Area Chapter were both awarded the North American/South American Affiliate Council Platinum Grand Award for Excellence and Innovation. This is the second year in a row that the Boston Area Chapter has received this honor. Runners-up for this prestigious award included:
   
* The San Francisco/Bay Area Chapter won the North American/South American Affiliate Council Platinum First Place Award for Excellence and Innovation.

* The San Diego Chapter won the North American/South American Affiliate Council Platinum Outstanding Award for Excellence and Innovation.

* The Greater Los Angeles Chapter won the North American/South American Affiliate Council First Place Award for Innovation in Communications for the second year in a row.

* The Boston Area Chapter won the North American/South American Affiliate Council Grand Award for innovation in Membership Services and the Grand Award for Innovation in Programs and Events.

* The San Francisco/Bay Area Chapter won the North American/South American Affiliate Council First Place Award for Innovation in Membership Services and the Outstanding Award for Innovation in Student Programs.

* The New Jersey Chapter won the North American/South American Affiliate Council First Place Award for Innovation in Programs and Events and the North American/South American Affiliate Council First Place Award for Innovation in Student Programs.

* The Chesapeake Bay Area Chapter won the North American/South American Affiliate Council Outstanding Award for Innovation in Programs and Events.

* The Carolina-South Atlantic Chapter won the North American/South American Affiliate Council Grand Award for Innovation in Student Programs for the second year running.

North Carolina State University Student Chapter is the 2010 Student Chapter of the Year Award Winner. They are sponsored by the Carolina-South Atlantic Chapter.

The International Student Poster Competition Award in the Graduate Category went to Sheba Goklany of Northeastern University, Boston Area Chapter, and the winner in the Undergraduate Category was Rosemary Garofalo of Stevens Institute of Technology, New Jersey Chapter.
