Dow Chemical to Receive 2012 Green Cross for Safety Medal from National Safety Council

In recognition of its outstanding achievements in workplace safety, community service, environmental stewardship, and responsible citizenship, The Dow Chemical Co. will receive the 2012 Green Cross for Safety Medal from the National Safety Council.

“Dow’s long held commitment to health and safety is proudly recognized through our core foundational values of integrity, respect for people and protecting the planet,” said Andrew Liveris, Dow chairman and CEO. “Receiving the Green Cross for Safety medal honors the dedication of Dow’s women and men across the globe for their exceptional and unwavering focus on making a positive and sustainable impact on our company, our communities and our world. I congratulate everyone at Dow for their steadfast commitment to safety and health.”

As a recipient of this recognition, Dow will actively serve as an ambassador for promoting safer operations across multiple industrial segments, including the chemical industry. This influential award builds upon Dow’s strong reputation for safe and sustainable operations. In 2010, Dow was the recipient of the prestigious Robert W. Campbell Award, established to recognize an organization for demonstrating world-class operational safety performance.

Dow is known for programs such as the “Drive to Zero” safety initiative, representing an inclusive strategy with detailed execution in all phases of its operations, and its contractor safety training and commitment – believing everyone working at a Dow facility deserves to go home just as safe as when they arrived. Dow was also actively involved in the implementation of Responsible Care, the global chemical industry’s standard of care for safety, environmental performance, security, and product stewardship.

“I am proud of the outstanding leadership in safety demonstrated by our employees every day,” said Dave Kepler, executive vice president and chief sustainability officer. “We celebrate the outstanding performance that garnered this recognition and remain committed to the safety and health of our employees, our environment, and the principles of Responsible Care as our top priority.”
