Bunting Announces Scholarship Recipients

Bunting Magnetics Co. has announced the 2010-2011 recipients of the Walter F. Bunting and June A. Bunting Memorial Scholarships. This year represents an increase of scholarships awarded from 12 in 2009 to 18 in 2010. The scholarships, which are $440 apiece, are awarded to employee’s college-age children for either university or vocational training.

“We are a family-owned company and we want to support the aspirations of our employee’s families,” stated Robert J. Bunting, Sr., president of Bunting. “My parents, for whom these scholarships are named, were very close to their employees and valued their hard work and dedication. So, this program is something that is very close to my heart.”

This year’s scholarship amount of $440 represents a 10% increase from 2009.
Since 2000, Bunting has awarded 87 scholarships totaling over $36,000 and recognize the founders of the company. On August 3, 1959, Walter and June Bunting founded Bunting Magnetics Co. in Chicago. The original location, on Chicago’s north side, was a 500-sq-ft office on Fullerton Ave. The company started as a stocking distributor for cast Alnico magnets and small ceramic magnet assemblies designed for industrial use.

For more than 50 years, Bunting has established itself as an industry-leading manufacturer in several product lines. From those humble beginnings, the company, headquartered in Newton, KS, has expanded to seven major locations including: a Flexible Die Div. in Newton, KS, a Magnet Materials Div. in Elk Grove Village, IL; a Magnet Applications Ltd (MAL) manufacturing operation in Berkhamsted, England; a Magnet Application Inc. facility in Dubois, PA; a purchasing office for Bunting China located in Ningbo, China; and an official licensee in Boronia Victoria, Australia, Alpha Magnetics Pty Ltd.
