American Chemistry Council (ACC) president and CEO, Cal Dooley, issued the following statement on the confirmation hearings by the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works of Lisa Jackson as administrator for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Nancy Sutley as chairman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ).
“ACC is excited to work with both of these talented leaders, as both bring an extensive amount of knowledge and experience to their respective positions. ACC and its members are keenly interested in the issues addressed by EPA and CEQ, including chemical regulation and climate change. Americans should have confidence in the safety of chemicals used in everyday products and an assurance that a robust regulatory structure protects public health and the environment. One of ACC’s top priorities is to work with the new administration and Congress to assure that the nation’s chemical laws rely on science, and provides EPA with the appropriate tools and power to make necessary regulatory decisions.
“ACC and its member companies look forward to working with Ms. Jackson and Ms. Sutley on chemical regulation and environmental initiatives that reflect the latest advances in science and technology and promote both regulatory and industrial innovation. We look forward to their full Senate confirmation.”
