The American Chemistry Council (ACC) honored Senator David Vitter with ACC’s Distinguished Leadership Award for advancing public policies that support innovation and job creation by America’s chemistry industry.

“As an ally and leading voice on behalf of the chemistry industry, Senator Vitter has championed congressional initiatives that drive job creation and economic growth in the state of Louisiana and nationwide,” said Cal Dooley, ACC president and CEO. “His strong leadership preserves our industry’s ability to innovate and compete with global markets, and it is an honor to present the Senator with this award on behalf of ACC’s members.”

As a member of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, and the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Senator Vitter oversees many issues that are important to the chemistry industry, including regulatory reform and securing America’s energy future.

“Senator Vitter has been a champion of regulatory reform, supporting fundamental changes to the rulemaking process and advocating for quality science as the basis of rules,” Dooley added. “As a tireless opponent of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) efforts to reconsider and lower the national ambient air quality standard for ozone, Senator Vitter played an integral role in keeping Louisiana and many other communities across the country open for business.”

Senator Vitter has also been a vocal advocate of domestic oil and gas production, including the production of natural gas from shale, an economic engine that can transform America’s energy security and revitalize its manufacturing sector, leading to hundreds of thousands of new jobs and a more competitive economy.
