A man who fell into a grain storage bin in Waterford, MI, and was trapped for five hours, was rescued late Wednesday afternoon.
Larry Mitchell, 57, was trying to unclog a cylinder hole in the bin that was filled with soy beans when he fell. At one point during the five-hour ordeal, Mitchell was covered up to his neck in beans. Rescue crews first tried to remove the grain with tractors, but then used chainsaws to cut holes in the bin more quickly. Oxygen was lowered into a bin the help him breathe.
Mitchell was conscious and breathing when reached by rescue teams, and then helicoptered to Regional Medical Center in Memphis, where he was recovering.
