Grain Silo Collapses at Lake Fort Phantom Hill

One of the two grain silos at Lake Fort Phantom Hill in Abilene, TX collapsed over the weekend and sank into the 80-year-old lake, according to KTXS 12 Abilene.

the collapse was most likely due to mother nature and age, according to Rodney Taylor, director of water utilities. "The action of wind and waves over many years has eroded the concrete and exposed the steel reinforcement to the elements," said Taylor.

The grain storage silos predate construction of Lake Fort Phantom Hill, which was completed around 1938.

The lake is one of Abilene's three sources of drinking water.
