Crespel & Deiters Group, a Germany-based wheat processor, has begun construction of a new €18.5 million (US $20.5 million) silo building at its headquarters in Ibbenbüren.

The company expects the state-of-the-art building to expand its handling and storage capacity, and help optimize the value chain.

Construction of the new silo building began in February, following the demolition of four smaller silos to make way for the new one. Slipform construction was used in the initial phase, allowing production at the site to continue smoothly. This method involves continuous concreting, with the formwork moving upwards as the building rises.

As a result, the silo building grew at about 15 centimeters per hour, reaching its full height of 49 meters in just under two weeks. Next steps include the installation of 18 silo cells and equipping them with the necessary technology.

The silo building is planned to be operational in early 2026.

In April 2023, Crespel & Deiters entered the US market with its at-the-time new subsidiary, Crespel & Deiters Food USA LP.

Based out of Chicago, the subsidiary brings Crespel & Deiters’ functional ingredients, such as texturizers and binders, to plant-based product manufacturers across North America. The company also installed local storage capacities to reduce delivery times for its wheat-based solutions.
