Department of Energy Selects Prater-Sterling High-Velocity Hammer Mill

Prater-Sterling was selected by the Department of Energy National Energy Lab to supply a high-velocity hammer mill for grinding a wide range of bio-fiber samples for a Torrefaction Research project.

Fitted for the first time with a torque transducer to precisely measure energy consumption, Prater-Sterling supplied a MM-5 hammer mill, a supporting filter receiver with a Prater airlock, and a high-pressure fan along with a wide range of perforated screens required to produce any bio-fiber particle distribution.

Scott Prater, company president and CEO, cited Prater-Sterling's unique manufacturing capabilities as key to the Mega mill’s precision tolerances to control particle sizing and the companies 85 years of application experience in the Department of Energy decision, also noting these same research capabilities are available in the company’s lab in Bolingbrook, IL.
