Magnetic Liquid Trap for Acidic Foods
Bunting Magnetics CR-MLT magnetic liquid trap

Bunting Magnetics Co. introduces its newly designed magnetic liquid trap made specifically for the food processing industry. Manufactured from a single piece of corrosive-resistant material, the CR-MLT is used specifically in processing acidic foods, including tomatoes and citrus.

“We developed our magnetic liquid trap because produce processors needed to replace their liquid traps more frequently,” said Rod Henricks, director of sales. “Over time, acidic foods and cleaning solutions cause pitting and other damage to the equipment, which means downtime during peak production time to replace parts.”

In addition to the corrosive-resistant material, the CR-MLT offers several features that produce processors desire. It has a high-pressure rating, which can handle a higher volume of product faster. Cleaning the CR-MLT is easy: As you pull the cartridge, a gasket wipes it clean. Because it is made from a single piece of stainless steel, there are no welds and no crevices to corrode.

Under normal circumstances, 316L stainless steel has good corrosion resistance. However, when under strain and acidic environments, intergranular cracks occur. This compromises the integrity of the protective oxide film, which results in pitting and corrosion. With Bunting’s new super alloy material in the CR-MLT, it has a much higher corrosion resistance than 316L stainless steel. Acidic foods such as tomato paste, ketchup, and vinegar-based products, as well as high-temperature chloride-based cleaning agents, won’t cause pitting, crevice and stress corrosion.

The CR-MLT utilizes 45SH magnets – temperature-compensated, high-intensity, neodymium magnets – for high capture of metal contamination.

“The CR-MLT was developed to answer the call of produce processors who wanted a better, safer, longer-lasting magnetic liquid trap,” said Henricks.”
