Eriez Celebrates Safety Record

On June 1, 2011, Eriez president & CEO Tim Shuttleworth hosted a safety celebration, held outdoors at the company’s headquarters in Erie, PA, to recognize the plant’s impressive achievement of 1000 days without a lost time accident. The celebration was attended by state and local officials as well as the company’s 300+ employees and featured a cookout lunch, with steak served up to employees by the Eriez management team.

“The safety picnic was a perfect opportunity to congratulate and thank the headquarters staff for their steadfast dedication to eliminate workplace accidents,” said Shuttleworth. “Working 1000 days without a lost time accident is truly a remarkable achievement for which they deserve a lot of credit. Our company is also dedicated to improving product and personal safety in the industries we serve.”

The Erie plant’s previous record for days worked without a lost time accident was 259. Eriez attributes its safety success to continued efforts to educate and engage employees in the company’s safety mission. “Our goal has been to incorporate safety awareness and training into all we do,” said Shuttleworth.

Recent modifications at Eriez included the revamping of its new employee safety orientation to emphasize safety, increased safety training for all employees, and the incorporation of safety into the company’s health and wellness program. Eriez also presents safety updates at company meetings and mounted a large sign that clearly displays the current number of days the plant has worked without a lost time accident along with the plant’s previous best record.

Tina Myers, Eriez’ process/safety manager, acted as the event emcee. Several city and state officials addressed the crowd to congratulate the Eriez team on their accomplishment and thank the company for its commitment to the Erie area. Shuttleworth also offered remarks, expressing his appreciation to Eriez employees for their dedication to maintaining a safe work environment at Eriez.

The Erie City Council and the Erie Mayor’s office acknowledged Eriez’ extraordinary safety record by issuing proclamations to the company. The City Council proclamation was presented to Eriez at the June 1 Erie City Council meeting, while the Mayor’s office proclamation was presented to Eriez by Fred Rush, coordinator of community initiatives for the city of Erie, during the safety celebration.
