An industrial accident claimed the life of a worker at the ADM Milling flour mill in Greenport, NY on Tuesday morning, officials told local news organizations.

First responders were called to the site at about 10:20 a.m. for a report of a man suffering from a cardiac arrest in an elevator, according to news broadcaster WTEN. After arriving at the scene, Columbia County Sheriff deputies determined the person died from an industrial accident.

“This morning, an ADM colleague was involved in a fatal accident while working at ADM’s flour mill in Hudson, NY,” ADM Spokesperson Jackie Anderson said in an article by HudsonValley360.com. “We are working with local authorities to investigate the situation surrounding the incident at this time.”

Anderson did not offer any details on the circumstances of the worker’s death to the news website, but said the company is “deeply saddened by this loss” and expressed appreciation for the “quick response and assistance of the emergency responders.”

An investigation into the cause of the fatality is ongoing, reports said.

Workers evacuated an ADM processing complex in Decatur, IL  during a fire in a solvent extraction building last December. In July 2019, a fire at an ADM warehouse in Decatur caused an estimated $100,000 in damage.
