The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Adminstration (OSHA) cited a Kraft Heinz Foods Company facility in Mason, OH for machine safety-related violations following the partial amputation of an employee’s finger, the agency said in a March 16 press release.

The worker was injured while working to clear a jam on a piece of equipment at the facility. OSHA proposed fines totaling $109,939.

Inspectors from the agency determined that Kraft Heinz did not implement energy control procedures to prevent accidental start-ups, failed to install machine guards and energy isolation devices that would have adequately protected workers, and neglected to provide training for employees on energy control procedures usage.

The company has 15 days to request an informal conference  with an OSHA area director, contest the findings before an independent panel, or comply with the penalties.

The 280,000-sq-ft plant in Ohio manufactures sauces and condiments, according to a report by the Hillsboro Journal-News.
