German specialty chemicals firm LANXESS is giving 10 mt of its Rely+On Virkon powdered disinfectant to healthcare workers, public institutions, and authorities in 13 countries impacted by the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The product is diluted with water to produce 1 million liters of disinfectant solution that can used to clean hard surfaces and equipment.

“We want to help contain the global spread of the coronavirus. With our disinfectant Rely+On Virkon, we can effectively contribute to this cause,” Anno Borkowsky, a member of LANXESS’ Board of Management, said in an April 9 release. “Many people, such as hospital employees, are currently risking their own health to save the lives of others.”

Powdered disinfectant will be donated to institutions in Germany, France, Italy, Great Britain, Spain, Poland, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, the United States, Brazil, and Mexico.

“When selecting countries, we paid attention to where the demand is particularly high and where our product is registered,” Borkowsky said.

In February, the company donated one mt of Rely+On Virkon to hospitals in Wuhan, China.
