28 people were injured during a HAZMAT situation Thursday at a Philips North America plant in Ontario, CA, officials and local news reports said

Ontario Fire Department responded to the scene around 8 a.m. after learning that a man was experiencing chest pain at the site, ABC News affiliate KABC reported. The cause of the incident is unknown.

The facility manufactures oral healthcare products.

Nine people were taken to area hospitals for non-life-threatening respiratory irritation, Ontario Fire said in a tweet. Firefighters asked the public to avoid the area where the facility is located for several hours during the response.

“Building is clear of contaminates but now further investigation is necessary,” the fire department stated in the social media post.
