Boar's Head Brand has launched boarshead.com/FoodSafety, a new webpage dedicated to the company's commitment to food safety and ensuring consumers nationwide can rely on the brand again.

The July recall of 72 Boar's Head and Old Country brand ready-to-eat meat, deli meat, and poultry products, including liverwurst, ham, bacon, bologna, and salami, was a major blow to the company. The recall was nationwide, with additional shipments to Mexico, Panama, Cayman Islands, and Dominican Republic. The outbreak covering 19 states lead to 59 hospitalizations with 10 deaths.

Soon after the Listeria outbreak, the company shuttered its Jarratt, VA plant where the pathogen was found. As well, Boar's Head hired former FDA Deputy Commissioner Frank Yiannas as its chief food safety advisor to head a new special independent Food Safety Advisor Council on an interim basis.

The new website does show how Boar's Head continues to work toward regaining customer loyalty.

The website includes:

  • The company's food safety commitment

  • The Boar's Head Food Safety Advisory Council

  • The comprehensive food safety processes Boar's Head has in place for quality assurance

  • Frequently asked questions about food safety at Boar's Head in the FAQ section

A statement from Boar's Head reads, in part: "We want people to know more about the rigorous processes and procedures we have in place – with in-depth supplier vetting, monitoring and audits, advanced technologies designed to uphold the highest safety standards, strict sanitation practices, comprehensive safety training for employees, certifications from leading food safety authorities, and ongoing third-party inspections to ensure constant compliance.
