Meat, poultry, and egg recalls for the month
The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service recalled 3 products and issued 2 health alerts in December. This is higher than November, which had 2 recalls, 1 expansion, and 1 health alert.
Import Violation
Nail Factory, Huntington Beach, CA, recalled around 1,635 lb of ineligible frozen Siluriformes fish products produced by a company in Vietnam that isn’t eligible to export the fish to the US. The impacted products are:
28.2-oz. plastic containers containing “Dac san dong que CA TRE VANG KHO TO Stewed Walking Catfish” with a Best Before date of Dec 30, 2025.
28.2-oz. plastic containers containing “Dac san dong que CA HU KHO TO Stewed Shark Catfish” with a Best Before date of Dec 30, 2025.
24.7-oz. plastic containers containing “Dac san dong que CA TRE VANG CHIEN NUOC MAM GUNG Fried Walking Catfish” with a Best Before date of Dec 30, 2025.
Produced Without Benefit of Inspection
Impero Foods & Meats Inc. of Baltimore, MD, recalled approximately 7,485 lb of raw pork sausage products produced without the benefit of federal inspection. The raw Italian pork sausage items were produced from October 3, 2024, through December 19, 2024. The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 10827” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to restaurants and retail locations in Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. Some products may have been sold at retail deli counters without labels or other identification.
The following products are subject to recall:
10-lb. white cardboard box cases containing a plastic bag of “Old World Italian Sausage” with “rope” handwritten on the case.
10-lb. white cardboard box cases containing a plastic bag of “Old World Italian Sausage” with “link” handwritten on the case.
Misbranding/Undeclared Allergen
Ralph's Packing Co., Perkins, OK, recalled 3,132 lb of ready-to-eat pork and beef bologna products due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen. The product may contain milk, a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label. The ready-to-eat pork and beef garlic bologna items were produced since September 2022 and may be frozen. These items were shipped to retail and foodservice locations in Oklahoma. Some products may have been sliced and sold at retail deli counters.
Products affected are:
16-oz. (1 LB) or various weight (larger than 16-oz.) vacuum-sealed chubs of “Ralph’s CIRCLE R BRAND GARLIC BOLOGNA” with lot codes 0093, 0654, 0804, 1074, 1153, 1224, 1374, 1774, 1924, 2572, 2974, 3132, and 3483.
16-oz. (1 LB) or various weight (larger than 16-oz.) vacuum-sealed chubs of “Ralph’s CIRCLE R BRAND GARLIC BOLOGNA with Jalapenos” with lot codes 0804, 1074, 1224, 1233, 1354, 2184, and 3374.
Public Health Alerts
A public health alert for frozen ready-to-eat pork mortadella products that may have been illegally imported from Ecuador, a country ineligible to export meat and poultry products to the US. The products subject to alert do not bear an establishment number or the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail and distributor locations in CT, MA, MD, NJ, NY, PA, and RI. The problem was discovered when FSIS was performing surveillance activities at a warehouse and found mortadella bologna products that did not have the USDA mark of inspection.
The product affected is:
1-lb. vacuum-sealed packages containing “Mortadela ESPECIAL BOLOGNIA.
A public health alert was issued for ready-to-eat (RTE) frozen chicken products that did not receive the benefit of import reinspection. A recall was not requested because the products are no longer on shelf. The products bear the Canadian establishment seal “348.” These items were shipped to one Costco retail location in Goleta, CA.
The product affected is:
5-lb. cardboard box packages containing “yummy Dino Buddies Holiday NUGGETS Breaded nugget shaped white meat chicken patties” with a “Best if Used by Date” of 11/06/26 and Lot #241556.
