2 Brands of Dog Treats Recalled Over Salmonella Concern
The Chicken Chips by both brands were distributed through online retailers and into several small independent pet retailers, as well as large feed stores.
Both Carolina Prime Pet Inc. of Lenoir, NC, and Gaines Pet Treats LLC of Birmingham, AL, have recalled Chicken Chips dog treats due to possible Salmonella contamination. The recalls were announced on Nov. 22, 2024, on the FDA website and cover many states.
Salmonella can affect animals eating the product and there also is risk to humans from handling contaminated products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.
The recalled Gaines Family Farmstead Chicken Chips were distributed through online retailers and into several small independent pet retailers in AL, FL, and GA.
The product comes in a 5-oz. bag marked with lot number 20061124 and an expiration date of 12/11/25. This is the only lot number identified as potentially contaminated, no illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem, and Gaines has made every effort possible to recover the potentially contaminated products.
The potential for contamination was noted after a third party tested and identified contamination in a related, unreleased lot of the same product.
Hollywood Feed's Carolina Prime Pet Inc. Chicken Chips were sold in Hollywood Feed stores throughout the US. The recall includes 400 16-oz. bags with lot number 20051324L2 and an expiration date of 11/13/25.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
The potential for contamination was noted after testing by a third-party laboratory identified contamination in a related yet commercially unreleased lot of the same product.
