On Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 2 p.m. Eastern/11 a.m. Pacific, Jack D. Hilbert, consultant, Pneumatic Conveying Consultants LLC, will present, “Then & Now: Repurposing Existing Pneumatic Conveying Systems & Components” as part of Powder & Bulk Solids' DryPro webinar series.

During an existing system's normal industrial life cycle, there are many times when existing equipment needs to be repurposed or modified due to one or more of various reasons. Today's industrial process plants have a significant difference over those which may have been installed decades ago. They need to have flexibility in their ability to handle a wider range of process parameters. Older systems likely did not have the same flexibility in their design, but there does exist potential to address the new challenges.

Examples of changes that may be necessary to address include:

  • Material changes to the product being handled

  • Pickup point or discharge point locations, which can be within the same site location or a different geographic location

  • Transfer capacity rates

  • Need to better preserve product quality

  • Need to reduce maintenance downtime

This presentation will look at the opportunities that exist to make changes to existing pneumatic conveying systems, taking advantage of "lessons learned" and technology advancements that are available, with the ultimate goal of having a more cost-effective solution other than a totally new system.
