Worker Dies After Electrocution at Calcium Carbide Plant

A worker died after they were electrocuted at the Carbide Industries calcium carbide production plant in Louisville, KY early Thursday morning, numerous local news organizations reported.

“Carbide Industries LLC is sad to report one of its employees was fatally injured this morning in a workplace accident at the Company’s Bells Lane facility in Louisville, Kentucky. The Company takes employee safety very seriously, and is working with government authorities to determine the cause of the incident,” the company said in a statement.

Emergency crews responded to the facility at about 4:30 a.m. EMS personnel performed first aid on the person and transported him to an area hospital where they were pronounced dead, Louisville, KY news station WDRB reported.

Lake Dreamland Fire Chief Freddie Georgie Jr. told WDRB that officials from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) have visited the site since the accident.

The name of the worker and details of the their death have not been released.
