ScottsMiracle-Gro Starts $3.6M Plant Expansion Project

Lawn and garden products producer ScottsMiracle-Gro Companyrecently broke ground on an expansion project at the firm’s Ft. Madison, IA manufacturing plant, a July 2 press release announced. 

The company is investing $3.6 million to build a new 4400-sq-ft addition that will contain a new packaging line and upgraded equipment. ScottsMiracle-Grow also plans to hire some 40 new full-time workers at the site, which focuses on the production of liquid lawn and garden products. 

“Today, we produce 70% of the liquid products for ScottsMiracle-Gro in Ft. Madison and next year, with expanded production capacity, we will produce over 95% of the company’s Miracle-Gro, Ortho, and Roundup consumer products,” Leslie Malinski, the firm’s director of liquid operations, said in a statement. 

The company’s plan to upgrade its Iowa plant comes after ScottsMiracle-Gro said it would close another liquids manufacturing facility in Pearl, MS.  

Completion of the project its slated for November 2018.
