SC Johnson to Produce Hand Sanitizer at Wisconsin Plant
April 22, 2020
Consumer and professional cleaning and disinfecting products manufacturer SC Johnson is retooling a line at its Mount Pleasant, WI manufacturing plant to add new capacity for hand sanitizers, the company announced Wednesday. Once the line is converted, it will be capable of producing up to 75,000 bottles of hand sanitizer per month.
The Mount Pleasant plant, known as Waxdale, is the largest manufacturing site in SC Johnson’s production network.
As part of the project, materials science firm Dow will make a one-time donation of bulk sanitizer to SC Johnson. The facility in Wisconsin will package the contributed sanitizer into bottles and send 12,500 bottles back to Dow for use in its production plants. Bottles of santizer bottled or made by SC Johnson will be donated to healthcare workers, first responders, and its workers.
“As doctors, nurses, and first responders work hard to protect their communities and save lives, we want them to know that all of us at SC Johnson stand with them and are here to help,” the firm’s chairman and chief executive officer, Fisk Johnson, said in a statement. “I am glad to be able to work with Dow to help meet the needs of people on the front lines during this challenging time.”
A number of companies have stepped up efforts to produce hand sanitizer in recent weeks, including Dow, Firmenich, Huntsman, and INEOS, as the world faces a shortage of the product due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
