Food company Tyson Foods temporarily halted production at its Logsansport, IN pork processing plant on Tuesday as a result of “unsanitary conditions” at the facility, several local news organizations reported.

An employee at the Tyson Fresh Meats plant, speaking under the condition of anonymity, told the Logsansport Pharos-Tribune that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) brought work at the facility to a stop as a “major cockroach infestation” was discovered. Several other workers confirmed the story to the newspaper.

“Operations have temporarily been halted” at the plant “due to a production related issue,” manager of external communications for Tyson Foods, Caroline Ahn, said in an emailed statement to media organizations.

The Springdale, AR-based company would not offer further details or a timeframe for restoring production at the site. The USDA confirmed to a local television station that the production shut down is related to unsanitary conditions.

“We hope to have the issue resolved quickly and resume operations as soon as possible,” Ahn said.
