Post to Close Massachusetts Cereal Plant this Summer
March 25, 2019
Food company Post Holdings is moving forward on its plans to close a production facility for Weetabix cereal in Clinton, MA, according to a document filed with the commonwealth’s MassHire Department of Career Services on March 20.
A Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act (WARN) notice submitted to Massachusetts officials said Post will shutter the Clinton facility between June 1 and July 7 this year, impacting 181 workers there.
St. Louis, MO-based Post first announced its intention to close the plant in February 2018, Powder & Bulk Solids reported. “The planned closure of the facility reflects Post’s continuous improvement initiative to optimize its cereal production network and manage costs in the ready-to-eat cereal category,” said a 2018 press release issued by the holding company.
Company financial documents released last November said the facility was slated for closure in October 2019 and indicated that a sale of the property will occur, according to coverage of the closure by the Worcester Telegram & Gazette.
The Clinton facility, which also produces Barbaras brand cereal products, was acquired by the food company in its July 2017 purchase of Weetabix.
